RHINO ORPHANAGE BY RITA SHAW While it is always a breeze and a pleasure booking my African travel through Hartley’s Safaris, my current trip (August 2015) included an afternoon, which was especially incredible and special to me!I was extremely privileged to be able to visit a rhino orphanage, which is not open to the public for fairly obvious reasons in this time of rabid poaching in South Africa.

RHINO ORPHANAGE BY RITA SHAW I was allowed to feed the female baby – this was quite a balancing act, as she sucks really hard on the teat and you have to roll back the edge of the teat to allow air in, while trying not to roll it off the end of the bottle.

RHINO ORPHANAGE BY RITA SHAW Gaby first took me to meet the three youngest orphaned white rhinos. The two boys and one girl share an enclosure during the day, where they are fed or can sleep, basically doing whatever they want to do, whenever they want to do it. They also share night quarters, where they can cuddle up to each other for comfort as they sleep, safely away from any poachers. Dedicated night staff keep an eye on them as they sleep.

SANPARKS FIGHT AGAINST POACHING The last few months have seen South African National Parks (SANParks) welcome several contributions for the fight against poaching which we hope will level the playing field and see even more success cases both in prevention and arrests. http://www.hartleys-safaris.co.za/news/sanparks-fight-poaching/
Ensuring a Legacy for Elephants | African Wildlife Foundation
"Though many actions must be taken to stop the illegal trade in ivory, AWF believes two actions in particular will make a significant impact. We urge countries with confiscated ivory to take the bold step of destroying their stockpiles, rather than saving ivory for potential future sales. And we urge countries that still allow domestic trade in #ivory to ban it altogether."

25 Most Endangered Species On Earth
This list compiled shows 25 of the most endangered animals in the world. Some are less known than others, but should all be promoted as in need of saving - through other means like AR, given the very small numbers of these animals left in existence. (Balkhi. A, 2013)
