King Edward VII
"King Edward VII" by George Lambert (England, 1910). Notes from the National Gallery of Australia: King Edward VII succeeded Queen Victoria to the throne in 1901 when he was nearly 60. He enjoyed life to the full and encouraged others to do the same. Despite his colourful personal life, during his short reign he was popular with the people for his good sense, tact and goodwill. He died shortly after this portrait was completed.

Alix was 2nd child of King Christian IX (1818-1906) Denmark & Louise (1817-1898) Hesse-Kassel, Germany. 6 children: Albert Victor (1864-1892), George V (1865-1936), Louise (1867-1931), Victoria "Toria" (1868- 1935), Maud (1869 -1938) & Alexander John (1871-1871).
