"Landscape Kimonos by Itchiku Kubota" at the Smithsonian Natural History Museum, was the most stunning, amazing textile art I have ever seen.  Mr. Kubota is (or more likely at this point in time, was) one of Japan's Living National Treasures for reviving and expanding on a particular ancient tie-dyeing technique.  The exhibit featured 45 full-sized kimonos: 30 that were exhibited side by side to form a continuous landscape image and illustrating a progression through the four seasons, and 15 ...
