Early 1950s CAPITOL RECORDS 45 RPM Record Sleeve

Twenty reasons why I LOVE Capitol Records (I tried to keep it to ten but couldn't)! 1. THE BEATLES (Duh!) 2. The great LES PAUL (and MARY FORD, of course) 3. JOHNNY MERCER (legendary songwriter and Capitol co-founder) 4. FRANK SINATRA (Double duh!) 5. NAT 'KING' COLE 6. THE BEACH BOYS 7. "DREAM" - THE PIED PIPERS (1945) 8. STAN FREBERG (John! Marsha!) 9. "TRUE LOVE" - BING CROSBY AND GRACE KELLY (1956) 10. PAUL MCCARTNEY 11. STEVE MILLER (The Space Cowboy!) 12. "ODE TO BILLIE JOE" - BOBBIE…

One of my most favorite buildings. Built in 1956 by Welton Becket and Associates, it was the world's first circular office building. It's resemblance to a stack of 45s on a spindle was only coincidental, not intended. Capitol's parent company, EMI, sold the building in 2006 to Argent Ventures of New York City. The famous Capitol Studios continue to be housed there, however. The tower is on the National List of Registered Historic Places.

When I was 14 my girlfriend and I took a bus to Hollywood and went to Capitol Records looking for Elvis. We took the elevator up to the top floor and kept getting escorted out as we journeyed down the elevator to each floor. Never did see Elvis. He must have left the building.

(Above) This sleeve uses a bold, Pac Man-like font for this Columbia Records sleeve. (Above) An early UK Capitol Records sleeve from the 1950s. (Above) Great use of the center die cut for this A&M Record’s sleeve. (Above) This 1-color record sleeve for Capitol Records rocks with the use of red ink…
