The Kinks- You Really Got Me (live on TV, probably late 1964) A pioneer user of power chords, Dave Davies cuts loose with perhaps the first modern rock solo. Allmusic called You Really Got Me "a blueprint song in the hard rock and heavy metal arsenal." Rolling Stone rated the song #4 of the 100 Best Guitar Songs of All Time. The influential distortion sound of the guitar track was created after guitarist Dave Davies sliced the speaker cone of his Elpico amplifier with a razor blade.
The centre of London's fashion world is now in the east, but in the mid-60s Carnaby Street was where it was at.
