Huangdi Neijing, also known as the Inner Canon of Huangdi or Yellow Emperor's Inner Canon, is an ancient Chinese medical text that has been treated as the fundamental doctrinal source for Chinese medicine for more than two millennia. The work is composed of two texts each of eighty-one chapters or treatises in a question-and-answer format between the mythical Huangdi (Yellow Emperor or more correctly Yellow Thearch) and six of his equally legendary ministers.
Huang Ti (c. 2698-2598 B.C. ) was known as the legendary Yellow Emperor and is believed to have ruled China during an enlightened age and is considered the ancestor of all Chinese people. The book “The Yellow Emperor’s Classic” is attributed to Hunag Ti and it teaches that food is an important means for treating disease. In particular, water and grains are cited as important and at the root of life.
