Women's Couture Skirts

This is what I call an "environmental fashion shoot" — a fashion shoot which makes strong use of the location, the environment around the model. I want to shoot more like this. —Dave Ward

Suit

Suit, Hubert de Givenchy, Paris, France: 1955, wool with moiré silk panels in the skirt. "This ensemble was designed by the Parisian couturier Hubert de Givenchy (b. 1927) for Leslie Caron (b. 1931), the French film actress and dancer. It was made for a play called 'Orvet' by Jean Renoir, who was Caron's great friend and mentor. He wrote it for her, and also directed it. It was first performed at the Theatre de la Renaissance, Paris, on 12 March 1955."

Christian Dior

Christian Dior's New Look, 1947. As a reaction to the rationing of World War II the new look, using many metres of fabric, came into fashion. It was a return to the classic feminine shape, emphasising the bust and hips, with a tiny waist. I love how glamorous this looks with the tiny jacket and voluminous skirt.
