Wild Geranium (Geranium maculatum). When Justine was 3 or 4, I took her with me to a native plant nursery. She begged to get to choose a plant, so I let her explore. She took me to the very back, and insisted THIS was the one. We planted it in a shady spot by our deck, where it thrived. Every year, its first blooms are on (or within a day of) her birthday, April 23.
