Poppies Pour Like Blood from the Tower of London - This summer, the Tower Of London will be surrounded by a sea of crimson. This installation, conceived by artist Paul Cummins and designer Tom Piper, will commemorate each and every British and Colonial fatality from World War 1 by planting 888,246 red ceramic poppies in a flowing sea around the tower's dry moat.
It's hard to explain what ‘remembrance’ is all about to kids. Bear on the Homefront, a beautifully illustrated children’s book, tells the true story of the guest children who came to live in Canada during WWII. It’s all told from the perspective of ‘Teddy’, a beloved stuffed bear, and manages to talk about war in a way that is gentle, fascinating and educational. We’ll be reading Bear on the Homefront and its prequel, A Bear in War, with the kids this Remembrance Day.
