Artist Mary Lum strolls around the city photographing the urban environment—buildings, railings, stairwells, and other architectural details. She then deconstructs these photos and collages them with acrylic paint, creating dynamic, unique spaces for viewers to occupy and explore. At the deCordova Biennial, Lum’s images left me feeling both exhilarated and disoriented, as though I were in a dream where the environment was familiar, yet not quite right. Predictable elements: Olive, the heroine, is immediately likeable and Lachlan sets our hearts racing. Unpredictable elements? Enter Miranda, one of the most intriguing characters I've met from Teen Fiction in a long time. With plenty of shocking twists, I found it very difficult to put this book down! I have never seen Pulp Fiction but this poster helps me predict what it's about. The needle representing drugs, the black background symbolises crime/death and the bold writing is a reference to authority and warning.
