Untold numbers of citizens in Russia still are living with the aftermath of radiation poisoning, various cancers. There are orphanages where children live because their parents have died from cancer related to the radiation poisoning of this disaster.
Feb 26, 1986 -- What Happened at Chernobyl?: The Sarcophagus of the Chernobyl Nuclear Reactor number 4. Within seven months the number 4 reactor building and its molten core was enclosed within a reinforced concrete casing. This was supposed to absorb the radiation. (January 25, 2006)
If you have any interest in what happened at Chernobyl in 1986 - please fund this book. It is beautifully written with incredible photography which captures the devastation left in wake of the accident.
