When photographer Andrey Sharpen wandered onto a former Soviet airbase in a far corner of Siberia, he was astonished at the scene. “There isn’t a living soul around,” Shapran says. It was built in 1954, and today serves as an airport for the small, nearby community of Cape Schmidt.
