The style spilled over into the first years of the 20th century when large elaborately trimmed "Picture" hats continued to be worn.  Women adopted the simpler Low Pompadour hairstyle for daily wear....

1800's. This a a very beautiful portrait. The lady in this image has no makeup on besides a form of lipstick. I love this hair style, i am confused as to how this would stay up so perfectly, as it is all gathered to one side. I love that there is a simple necklace round her neck, nothing distracting around the neck.
