Victorian Cradles And Bassinets

A 19th century Victorian mahogany cradle in a mahogany stand. The cradle hangs from the stand by two gilded brass brackets that allow it to rock. The cradle has a domed hood which is panelled and has carved and reeded decoration. The stand has a twin support base with cross stretchers and scroll feet, there are two turned mahogany pillars from which the cradle hangs. c. 1870

It was also the reputed setting of the final extravagant banquet from the famous chef, Francois Vatel - hosted in honour of Louis XIV by Louis, the great Condé in April 1671.
