A series of photos shows hijacked United Airlines Flight 175 as it strikes the south tower of the World Trade Center at 9:03 a.m. on Sept. 11, 2001, and then explodes. A giant hole in the north tower shows where it was hit by American Airlines Flight 11, 43 minutes earlier. A total of 2,753 people died in the al-Qaida-sponsored terrorist attack on the World Trade Center.

Smoke, flames and debris erupt from the South Tower as United Airlines Flight 175 hits. This flight was on route from Logan International Airport in Boston, Massachusetts to Los Angeles International Airport in California, the same path as the other plane that struck the North Tower.

Dedicated in 2008, the Boston Logan International Airport 9/11 Memorial is set on 2.5 acres and was designed by local firm Moskow Linn Architects. The site features a large glass box that contains panels inscribed with the names of the passengers and crew of United Airlines Flight 175 and American Airlines Flight 11, which both took off from the airport.
