During World War I So Afr troops entered S.W.A. in Febr 1915 and the German forces in the territory surrendered on 09 Jul 1915. So Afr forces occupied German S.W.A. on behalf of the British Gov. Until the signing of the Peace Treaty with Germany at Versailles on 28 June 1919, S.W.A was mandated to So Afr and the South African Red Ensign (flag above) was flown in the territory until 31 May 1928.
