A bee balances two water droplets on its back as it perches on a flower. The picture was taken by keen photographer Agus Sudarmanto near Doha, Qatar. He said: "There is no rain at all here so we have to spray water periodically on flowers. This is the reason there were drops on the bee, but it was amazing how it was just delicately balanced on his back."
Roast chicken with dates, olives and capers: The Silver Palate, by Julee Rosso and Sheila Lukins, is one of the best cookbooks I know and a classic of the 1980s, listing recipes from the first modern quality take-out food shop in New York. Many of the dishes in the book have become legendary. One of them, Chicken Marbella, is the inspiration for this recipe. The chicken needs marinading for at least a day, preferably two, to soften and flavour properly; I wouldn’t cut corners here.
Lion Cameron and white tiger Zabu play together at the Big Cat Rescue in Tampa, Florida. A meeting between the two predators would have been impossible in the wild as they hail from different continents. The feline duo - aptly nicknamed The Odd Couple by their caretakers at Big Cat Rescue in Florida - were rescued from a roadside zoo around eight years ago.
Uzbek Baubles - I may have to learn how to do these and make (yet another) Christmas tree this year! Love the yarn wrapped tree, as I'm not one of those who can do guerilla knitting or crocheting! They are available for sale at www.niki-jones.co.uk/#
