Tsukiji Market (築地市場)

Located right in the middle of #Tokyo, #Tsukiji is the largest #seafood market in the world, and makes a fantastic (and free) addition to any Tokyo itinerary. However with increasingly unstable relations between the vendors (for whom this is their livelihood) and tourists (for whom it is a fascinating attraction), it is important to know how to “do” Tsukiji properly.

Tsukiji Fish Market - Tokyo, Japan. Got up very early in the morning, and took a short train ride to the outskirts of Tokyo. We walked into this vast and unique fish market, where there were hundreds of fish that we didn't know existed. God's little salt water paridise! What an adventure!

7 Wonderfully Weird Things to Do in Tokyo - Photos

You may have seen a sumo match, but have you ever seen a live tuna auction? The Tsukiji Fish Market, one of the world’s largest fish markets, holds a 5 a.m. sell-off featuring lots of fish tossing and loud, rapid-fire Japanese from auctioneers and bidders alike. If a predawn visit to the exclusive first-come, first-serve event doesn’t suit you (only a maximum of 120 people per day are allowed in to watch), a spin around the market in the late morning is still an interesting thing to do.
