The Caucasian Ovcharka Mountain Dog - I love these dogs, but beware - these dogs do not do well in warmer climes and they need room to roam or behavioral problems will develop. Large, loyal, and lovable, these dogs are fiercely protective. As with any companion animal, do your homework before attempting ownership of this particular breed.
The Caucasian Mountain Dog was developed in medieval Russia for guarding livestock. It is a powerful, robust breed, popular at Russian dog shows. Its temperament remains cautious with strangers & difficult to obedience train. It is not recommended with children nor other dogs, nor in urban spaces. The thick, dense coat provides good protection against cold weather.
