The Innsmouth Look. People with the “Innsmouth Look” appear vaguely fish and/or frog-like through the face, especially the eyes. Inspired by H.P. Lovecraft’s works, particularly The Shadow Over Innsmouth.

Weird Shadows Over Innsmouth - The Deep One | Les Edwards | One of four artworks commissioned by Fredogan & Bremer for their second Lovecraftian anthology edited by Stephen Jones. Includes stories by Brian Lumley, Hugh B. Cave, Paul McAuley and Kim Newman. This series of drawings is a rare excursion for me into black and white drawing. Any chance to illustrate Lovecraft is to be jumped at.

Trivia: Innsmouth was a finalist for the 1936 Summer Olympic Games (and we can see here the Innsmouth swim team practicing). The town never fully forgave the Olympic committee for passing Innsmouth for the more family-friendly city of Berlin. A shame, really.
