"The Lady of Shallott" (1888), by John William Waterhouse, Tate Britain SW1.

My entire senior English class (high school) thought I looked like The Lady of Shalott in this painting (it was in our textbook). My family and I agreed! - The Lady of Shalott - John William Waterhouse, 1888

Waterhouse’s Lady of Shalott - is an 1888 oil-on-canvas painting by the English Pre-Raphaelite painter John William Waterhouse in Tate Britain in London. The work is a scene from Alfred, Lord Tennyson's 1832 poem of the same name, in which the poet describes the plight of a young woman, loosely based on Elaine of Astolat from medieval Arthurian legend, who yearned with an unrequited love for the knight Sir Lancelot, isolated under an undisclosed curse in a tower near King Arthur's Camelot.

The Lady of Shalott [looking at Lancelot]. She left the web, she left the loom, She made three paces thro' the room, She saw the water-lily bloom, She saw the helmet and the plume, She look'd down to Camelot. Out flew the web and floated wide; The mirror crack'd from side to side; "The curse is come upon me," cried The Lady of Shalott. excerpt - Tennyson, 1842
