Biwtiffyl! Border Terrier - It's hard to go wrong with a breed that was the favorite of James Herriot. Developed in northern England, the Border Terrier was used to hunt foxes that preyed on farmers' livestock. It became a favorite hunt terrier, working with packs of Border Foxhounds.
Herdwick sheep were probably introduced by Norse settlers during the Viking invasions (10th-11th c.). The husbandry of the sheep has been a large factor in shaping the culture & terrain of the Lake District. Beatrix Potter was involved with breeding Herdwicks & bequeathed 15 farms to the National Trust. Per her instructions all continue to graze Herdwick flocks.

Abyssinian Kitten - The Abyssinian is one of the oldest breeds of pedigree cat and was one of those exhibited at the very first cat show held at the Crystal Palace in 1871. It is generally agreed that this breed originated in Egypt, and certainly the ticked coat pattern would have been the perfect camouflage for wild cats living in the dry, scrubby North African habitat.
