The Lake District tends to be busy in summer but it is still possible to escape the crowds if you’re willing to explore.Even popular Ullswater, widely regarded as the most beautiful lake in England, has its share of secluded bays and beaches from which to enjoy a dip. Or hire a boat, fish for trout, dive, sail, canoe, catch the steamer or simply skim a pebble.
Taken over 100 years ago, this footage shows a number of scenes shot around central London, taking in locations such as Hyde Park Corner, Parliament Square and Charing Cross Station. We see crowds of people disembarking from a pleasure steamer at Victoria Embankment, pedestrians dodging horse-drawn carriages in Pall Mall and heavy traffic trotting down the Strand.
