The reason why I've denominated this Russian Makarov Automatic Pistol as a cultural artifact is that, in spite of its Stalinist origins, it bears on its grip a medallion of the Romanov double eagle which has been adopted as the national symbol of post-Communist Russia. Wow! Talk about mixed metaphors! A Communist firearm bearing the symbol of the Russian Imperial Family!
