Galanin. From contraction of smooth muscle tissue in the bowel to inhibition of insulinsecretion from the pancreas - or augmenting then pai allieviating effect of morphine. Galanin is predominantly an inhibitory, hyperpolarizing neuropeptide and as such inhibits neurotransmitter release. Linked to an acute antidepressive efficacy, probably by a mechanism related to that of therapeutic sleep deprivation.
