Slow Cooker EZ Swiss Steak 1 1/2 lbs. beef steak 4 c. spicy stewed tomatoes (or Rotel) 1/2 tsp. minced garlic Salt and pepper to taste Put meat in crockpot. Pour the tomatoes over and cook on low about 8 hours. Serves 6.
I had never heard of swiss steak but it is really good! I shredded the meat before serving (it does it on it's own anyhow), added cup of red wine, and served it over garlic mashed potatoes. Maybe I'll add peas and carrots next time. -Julia
Slow Cooker Swiss Steak. The original 1974 [not 1975] Rival Crock-Pot recipes called for 2-2/12 lbs. of round steak, a package of onion soup mix, 2 large cans of crushed tomatoes, and 2 cups of water. 8 hours on low. For a brown instead of red steak, substitute cream of mushroom soup for the tomatoes and a package of brown gravy mix for the onion soup mix. Both are easy and excellent. The 1975 Rival Crock- Pot version is totally different with carrots and celery and no soup mix.
Delicious! I don't cook the beef in a pan first, I just throw it all in the crock pot on low for 5 hours. When it's done, in a shaker cup, I mix 1 cup of milk, 2 tbsp of flour and pepper and add to stew to give it a creamy texture and thicken it up. Allow another 10 or so mins for it to thicken up in crock pot
