It was the site of the murder of Edward the Martyr in 978. During the English Civil War it was a Royalist stronghold and was besieged twice, in 1643 and again in 1646. It is currently owned by the National Trust and is open to the public.
Carreg Cennen, the most romantic castle in Wales (and therefore the most romantic in the world says I !) Four miles south of Landeilo, Carmarthenshire in the Brecon Beacons National Park. The oldest parts of the castle probably date to about the early 1200s. Due to the usual conflicts it has been in a ruinous state since 1462. jp. (Next Destination).
