Many versions of self watering containers, also known as self watering grow boxes, self watering pots, and self watering planters are sold online, but you can make them yourself for a fraction of the cost out of some easy to find items.:
Make a self-watering planter: Cut bottom off empty plastic bottle. Poke a hole in the bottle cap using wooden skewer. Fill with water, making sure you get a slow drip of water through the hole with skewer in it. Put in your flower or vegetable planter, making sure skewer is in the dirt to hold the bottle. Great for hanging planters to keep them watered! Refill with rain water or hose as needed.
