Agrostemma githago - ( Corn-Cockle ) Part Used: Seeds. Medicinal Properties: Minute amounts of powdered seeds once taken in honey as a diuretic, expectorant, vermifuge (dewormer); used for jaundice, dropsy, gastritis. Europeans use for cancer, warts, hard swellings in uterus. *WARNING*- Seeds TOXIC, especially when broken; dangerous saponins are concentrated in seed embryo.
Alupag Fruit. The rare Alupag bears longan-like fruits with noticeable warts on the skin. Fruit is eaten fresh, out of the hand, but is also canned. The flesh is very tasty, like the longan, with a fairly large seed. Alupag fruit is appreciated in its native range, Southeast Asia, with concentrations in the Philippines and Indonesia, but generally put aside for its better known and highly selected relatives, the lychee and longan. It is an evergreen that grows in height to about 50-75ft.
