Southwold Beach, Suffolk The jewel in the crown of East Suffolk seaside resorts, Southwold’s tranquil demeanour does nothing to betray its colourful history. Because of coastal subsidence most of Baiae is now under water in the Bay of Naples, largely due to local volcanic activity.
