The Bennie Railplane was a propeller driven train conceived by Scottish engineer George Bennie. It was designed to carry passengers at greater speeds above the slower conventional freight trains. The tester rail line was 130-yard (120 m) long and consisted of both a running rail and an overhead guide rail. It was opened in Glasgow in 1929, 100 years after the George Stephenson line.
