Alan Scott Newman (1950–1978) was an American film & TV actor & stuntman, whose most prominent roles were in The Towering Inferno & Breakheart Pass. He was the only son of Academy Award-winning actor Paul Newman. He suffered a motorcycle accident in the fall of 1978, & was taking painkillers to ease the discomfort of his injuries. However, in Los Angeles on the night of November 19, he took a fatal dose of valium with alcohol & other drugs. The official verdict being an accident.

In 1978, Paul Newman's son, Scott Newman, who was an aspiring actor in his own right, was found dead in a hotel after overdosing on pills and alcohol. He was 28. Scott Newman had issues with drinking and had been arrested for some alcohol-related incidents. He suffered a motorcycle accident in 1978 for which he then also began taking pain pills. Paul and his first wife Jackie Witt- Newman was married to Jackie Witte from 1949 to 1958. They had three children;Stephanie & Susan. & a son, Scott. Newman met actress Joanne Woodward in 1953. Shortly after filming The Long, Hot Summer, in 1957 he divorced Witte.
