Read the information provided in the 'What is mental health?' tab, then listen to the video about young people with mental illnesses on the home page. I hope it provides you with a better understand of mental health, and its prevalence in youth. You are not alone!
Schizophrenia is a severe mental disorder, characterized by profound disruptions in thinking, affecting language, perception, and the sense of self. It often includes psychotic experiences, such as hearing voices or delusions. It can impair functioning through the loss of an acquired capability to earn a livelihood, or the disruption of studies
Prevalence: The prevalence of Childhood Schizophrenia is about 1.1% of the United States population. Similarly, in other scholarly articles, I found about 7.7 people out of every 1000 individuals (ncbi.nlm.nih.gov) have been found to have Schizophrenia. Because this is a very small percentage difference, I consider it just as accurate. I have included this resource in the 'additional web resources' section of the worksheet.
