There are two scatter plot activities included. First, students walk through and discover the steps to construct, interpret, and model scatter plots given an example with positive correlation. Then, students apply what they discover to gather and organize data, write an equation for a trend line, and draw conclusions about the relationship in a scenario with negative correlation.Students will be able to construct and interpret scatter plots, draw an appropriate trend line and write its…
I like this idea because students can take an active role and have a voice and it gives teachers an idea of where students feel they are at. Great Idea to get student feedback on lessons. It's also a roundabout way of introducing scatter plots, too!
Data Display Guided Notes
Guided Note Sheet that could be put into an interactive notebook. Notes over the following data displays: Venn Diagram Histogram Scatter Plot Box-and-Whisker Plot Bar Graph Stem-and-Leaf Plot There are definitions and visual examples for each data display type.
This video covers the basic vocabulary necessary for describing scatter plots and the traits of linearity. For example, it goes through a few examples of positive, negative, and no correlation. Remember: two variables ARE related if they show a positive OR negative correlation. They are NOT related if there is no correlation.
