Eleanor Rycraft studied ceramics in the late 1940s.  She read about Scandinavian cookie stamps and realized she could make them from clay instead of wood.  She sold her first cookie stamps at the Christmas sale at the Corvallis Arts Center in 1967 and the Junction City, Oregon Scandinavian Festival the following summer.  Eleanor, with the help of her husband Carroll, expanded the business; by 1979, the company employed 25 people.

How To Make Scandinavian Cornstarch Ornaments

White dough: cup cornstarch 1 cup baking soda cup water _Bake at 175 degrees F for minutes. Then flip over and bake an additional minutes, or until all ornaments are hard. Let cool then spray with a clear protective coating (Krylon matte finish).
