This pyramid shows the effectiveness of certain teaching methods and student retention. Lecture at the lowest, 5 percent retention and teaching others as the highest with 90%. No more lecturing students, they are only holding onto 5% of the lessons you teach! Include more student led instruction where students learn on their own and allow students to teach other students.
This is a 3-4 day lesson that covers all nuclear chemistry objectives with the exception of half-life. Students are engaged in research using computers or other internet connected devices to produce an informational product. It is meant to both introduce, instruct, and assess student learning. I have found it to be very engaging and efficient with a much higher knowledge retention rate than traditional teaching methods. Includes teacher instruction, student materials, and a rubric.
