I made 2 substitutions: I used 1-1/3 c. sliced raw carrots (threw them in the water with the chicken) and 1/3 frozen lima beans. It's what I had. May be different next time. The other substitution: I use a dry mix now that I made and keep around to use in place of canned soups. Also added some poultry seasoning.
