The English word, bead, derives from the Old English noun bede which means a prayer. Beads are among the earliest human ornaments and ostrich shell beads in Africa date to 10,000 BC. Over the centuries various cultures have made beads from a variety of materials from stone and shells to clay.
As controversial as this may be, Attenborough is right. At least we have birth control to effect such a change - people in the countries the overly developed world likes to call 'developing' when they really mean, 'subjugated and oppressed' will continue to have larger families because the infant mortality rate will remain high because white people don't care enough about the poorer nations - which is appalling, considering some of Europe is desperately poor. Anyway. Attenborough is correct.
