This image represents the hidden layers of his personality. He wears a metaphorical mask of a happiness he lacks s he knows this is the bets chance of protecting his family and himself from despair. The level of his confidence and self worth is lowered when around his family as he feels even more vulnerable and this is when his facade fades but when with his colleagues he has to act strong, tough and in control to persuade them he is worthy of his status.
A major theme in The Taming of the Shrew is transformation. There are various examples of it such as physical disguise, changes in attitude and behavior, and psychological changes. Lucentio disguises himself as a tutor and Tranio his servant dresses up as him to fulfill his duties. Kate transforms from a shrew into an obedient wife and her whole mind set changes.
This pin reminds me of how mental health issues develop. We start with a clean slate and then every negative experience (and trauma) piles up, one on top of the other over the years, and then there is hardly anything left of the real us, and our personalities get just as jumbled up (what we call disordered in psychology) because of the level of disorganization (chaos) in our lives.
