Kennedy's third book, written during a year's convalescence after an operation for an injury suffered during the war. The book profiles senators who crossed party lines and/or defied the opinion of their constituents to do what they felt was right, suffering severe criticism and losses in popularity because of their actions. He won the Pulitzer Prize in 1957 for this book.
