Tax beef 40% and milk 20% to cut carbon and save lives, say scientists. A general carbon levy on foods would raise the prices of beef, milk and vegetable oils above current prices but barely affect veggies or fruits. Prices for poultry, rice and wheat would rise 8%. Pork would rise 7%, corn 6%, eggs 5%. It would fight climate change and obesity. It would reduce deforestation and habitat destruction, the biggest cause of extinction.
