High Court rules NHS England has the power to provide ‘game-changing’ HIV drug

NHS England has lost its appeal over a High Court ruling that it has the legal power to commission PrEP, a “game-changing” preventative HIV/Aids drug. PrEP, short for “pre-exposure prophylaxis”, is a prevention strategy which involves people who are HIV negative but at high risk of infection taking the anti-retroviral drug Truvada to reach optimal levels of protection.

Ivor Caplin, calls for NHS to immediately prescribe PrEP to those at risk of catching HIV. The former Government Minister and MP for Hove was speaking at the ‘Perspectives and Perceptions of PrEP’ …
