Family/Dining room turned into playroom. Pictures of our son with family members who live long distance hang above the play kitchen. The art corner provides storage area & highest shelf contains items only accessible to me & are used under my supervision (i.e. glue, scissors, play-doh). A white shelving unit is used in a lackadaisical Montessori-style with the top being open & the bottom containing blocks, Legos, matchbox cars, etc. Above it, a chicken-wire frame is used to display artwork.
This is a fabulous way to incorporate nature-provided ingredients into a fun, hands-on activity. I suggest it could even be used to create a lesson in science and/or nature study by learning about the herbs and spices themselves.
