Paper chromatography is a useful analytical technique used in chemistry to separate the components of a solution. Kids can learn some simple chemistry by watching and/or performing a very simple demonstration of chromatography used to separate the colours of ink or markers.
Where do the dyes in markers come from? In the "Make Your Own Markers" #science project, students learn how to extract pigment molecules from plants and compare them to the color molecules in markers using paper chromatography.
