No jail time for 3 guards accused of severely beating inmate at Attica Correctional Facility. Each pleaded guilty to a single misdemeanor charge of misconduct. The last-minute plea deal spared them any jail time in exchange for quitting their jobs. The prosecution was the 1st time any NYS corrections officers had been criminally charged with a nonsexual assault of an inmate, officials said. The 3 defendants would have faced a minimum of five years’ imprisonment if convicted.

RAYBROOK STATE SANATORIUM WAS OPENED IN 1904 AND ENLARGED IN 1910. THE TRAIN STATION WAS RIGHT ON THE HOSPITAL GROUNDS. THE SANATORIUM WAS FREE TO ALL NYS RESIDENTS. IN 1946 IT WAS RENAMED RAY BROOK STATE TUBERCULOSIS HOSPITAL. IN 1980 IT WAS THE WINTER OLYMPIC VILLAGE AND HOUSED THE ATHLETES. IT WAS RUN AS A WOMEN'S DRUG FACILITY FOR A SHORT TIME AFTER AND IT IS NOW A STATE PRISON CALLED THE ADIRONDACK CORRECTIONAL FACILITY OR CAMP ADIRONDACK.

1971: Attica (N.Y.) Correctional Facility is the scene of a riot September 9-13 when about 1,000 of the approximately 2,200 inmates rebel and seize control. 43 hostages are taken as bargaining chips but negotiations over better living conditions break down and state police storm the prison.
