Michigan State softball's Jessica LeFevre has been named to the ESPN The Magazine/CoSIDA Academic All-America District IV First Team, as announced by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA). LeFevre is the 20th honoree in MSU history, and the 13th to earn a place on the first team. All of Michigan State's Academic All-District IV awards have been earned under current head coach Jacquie Joseph's leadership.
In a whirlwind college career that has seen her bounce around from Southern Mississippi to junior college in Texas and now to Michigan State, pitcher Kelly Smith has finally found a home, and the Michigan State softball team is happy to have her. Smith ranks third in the Big Ten in strikeouts (168) and fourth in wins (17) heading into this weekends series vs. Michigan.
Michigan State softball gathered two wins in a doubleheader sweep over Penn State Wednesday at Secchia Stadium. MSU picked up a 4-1 win in the first game and then went on to defeat the Nittany Lions, 7-1, in the second game. The Spartans now own a 19-13 record on the season overall and are 5-0 in Big Ten play.
Michigan State softball fell to Ball State and Eastern Michigan Thursday afternoon in Boca Raton, Fla. McKinzie Freimuth notched an RBI in both games; Kelly Smith and Dani Goranson each recorded nine strikeouts on the day.

Michigan State softball continues to earn postseason honors as four Spartans were named to the 2008 Great Lakes All-Region Team on Wednesday, May 14. Senior outfielder Nikki Nicosia received first-team honors, while senior utility player Jessica LeFevre, junior shortstop Gina Mondo and redshirt freshman Bianca Mejia garnered second-team nods.
