First grade- based on McElligot's Pool, students drew a crayon drawing of a fish that has unusual characteristics (this was a "friendly pink crab"). Then, using turquoise liquid watercolors, They painted over their drawings, resulting in a resist. This was a very fun project :)

Dr. Seuss Door Decoration  Read McElligot's Pool to your class and have each child make a fish.  "Who knows what I'll catch in McElligot's Pool?"  Students made up pretzel fish, Frankenstein fish, vampire fish, and snowman fish.  Great way for students to use their imaginations!
