MARILYN MONROE Costume test for unfinished Something's Gotta Give 1962. Costume by JEAN LOUIS. Marilyn was looking her very best here, slim, refreshed & stunning. The studio tried to pretend the opposite. From CREATING THE ILLUSION by Jay Jorgensen & Donald L Snoggins 2015. A fabulous book. JEAN LOUIS is FINALLY GIVEN HIS DUE HERE! He created Marlene Dietrich's iconic Las Vegas gowns, Marilyn's 'Happy Birthday' gown. And BOB MACKIE was HIS UNDERSTUDY (Minkshmink)
Happy Birthday Ernestine Jane Geraldine Russell (21 June 1921 28 February 2011)!! She is better known as a sex symbol of the 40s and 50s and an actress. She got her big break in the film The Outlaw but is probably best known for her role in Gentlemen Prefer Blondes. Some of her co-stars included Richard Widmark Clark Gable Frank Sinatra Robert Ryan and Robert Mitchum along with Jeanne Crain Marilyn Monroe and Eleanor Parker.
WING IT Monroe accentuated her heavy lids with a distinct strip of eyeliner. To create her cat-eyes, she kept Elizabeth Arden Show Stopper pencils in black and brown in her makeup kit. Angled pencils can make copycatting a little easier for novices (try Pop Beauty Cat Eyes in Black Olive). If you stray outside the lines a little, just dip a cotton swab in liquid makeup remover to clean it up.
