In the Play Macbeth was murdered by Macduff when in reality he was murdered by Malcolm III, King Duncan's son. Malcolm III then takes the thrown.

Motif: Sleep Represents innocence, action and consequence. The punishment for crimes is lack of sleep or difficulty with it. Both Lady Macbeth and Macbeth have issues sleeping due to the guilt after the horrible crimes they committed. They are neither innocent or at peace with this crime. the fact that they killed Duncan in his sleep enphasizes the point because Duncan was defenceless againts the attack.
