There are aspects to Lynch's work that I can understand in the dreamscape. But a lot of it seems contrived and too graphically horrific. The subtle feeling of angst is more appropriate, like the ceiling fan in Twin Peaks. It's not the separate components of dreams that hold a horror, it's their composition. Repetition and time-jumps are key, as well as the playing-out and sudden corruption of a conscious wish. I'll give him one thing - he's made me seriously analyse his work.
